Prevention Behaviour Change (BC): BC programme was rolled out in April 2010. This programme is funded by Global Fund and its role is all about influencing people's behavior in a positive way especially against risky sexual behaviors. This entails people's Attitudes, Traits, Perceptions, Opinions, Ideas, Beliefs, and Practices. The focus is on HIV prevention, targeting everyone who is sexually active (15-49 years which are approximately 61209males and 70118 females) including People Living with HIV (PLHIV). This will be achieved through, creating an enabling environment, increased adoption of safer sexual practices and behaviors, increased utilization of existing HIV prevention services in a multi-sectoral approach. It is hoped that these will help in reducing the number of new HIV Infections in the Chipinge district.

Testing and Counseling services: New Start Programme offers professional Testing & Counseling services in Chipinge and Chimanimani districts, at the centre as well as through mobile outreaches. It is funded by Population Services International (PSI) and is in partnership with FACT Mutare. Having realized that clinics cannot cater for all the people in the district and that some areas are hard to reach, it was found necessary to cover the gaps by making the services more accessible to the communities. Apart from facilitating behaviour change, it is also an entry point to treatment, care and support for the infected and affected. Since its inception in December 2006, 41 444 clients have been counselled and tested and 34, 5% of these clients were repeat visits. This programme also upholds professional counseling ethics like confidentiality. New Start Centre, like any other centres in the network offers workplace Testing &Counseling which enables workforce to be tested at their workplace without disruption of work activities, since they do not have the time to go to other testing sites. The photo shows the trained VHWs at Mutema training centre under the Emergency Respond Fund project as part of scaling up primary Health care services and contribution to the reduction of outbreacks. |
